Andrew was diagnosed with a life-threatening neuromuscular condition having no cure, which impacts all muscles from swallowing to breathing to walking. His first emergency occurred at 3 days old and for the first 2 years he experienced numerous respiratory and cardiac arrests. These extremely serious emergencies required him to spend many months hospitalized in the PICU. His numerous specialists arranged for a medically fragile child status and he remained homebound until recently. About six months ago, one of his medical professionals made the profound statement, "We have moved past the stage of just trying to keep Andrew alive; now we need to focus on his future."
Andrew is truly an amazing little man with such a positive attitude. He is a smart, determined, and an adaptive child that works through his challenges. He has brought such joy to our family and reminds us to count our blessings every day.
