Ryan is a smart, fun, energetic, competitive 12-year-old boy with big dreams and an even bigger heart. He loves being outdoors, playing hockey, and spending time with friends and family. Ryan brings laughter into our home and always keeps us moving playing basketball or kickball in the yard. His favorite classes at school are math and physical education.
In November 2018, Ryan had a swollen lymph node on his neck that was growing quickly. After several trips to the pediatrician ruling out strep throat and mono we were sent to the emergency room for additional testing that revealed Ryan had some form of cancer. We were then transported to the Cleveland Clinic and on November 14, 2018 Ryan was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin T cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. To say our family was in shock is an understatement. We were devastated as our entire world was turned upside down.
Because of the aggressive nature of Ryan’s cancer, treatment also needed to be aggressive and started immediately. Over the past few months Ryan has spent more time in the hospital than he has at home. The chemotherapy is taking its toll on his body and sometimes even getting out of bed is difficult for him, but he pushes on and amazes us with his determination. Through it all Ryan continues to make us laugh with his quick wit and great sense of humor. We feel so lucky to be his parents and couldn’t be prouder of him.
Ryan has taken on cancer like a hockey game. A game that he will definitely win with the unwavering support of his team, Team Ryan! We are so grateful for a Special Wish for being a part of that team and for helping our family throughout this journey. The food drops and Sparkles of Joy helped bring back a little sunshine.
